Tank became an internet sensation when his photo went viral on social media resulting in over 1 million Facebook “likes” in less than 48 hours.

Vesting America’s Police K-9’s created the campaign for Tank. The organization promised to donate the service vest for him to wear while on-duty if his picture received 1 million “likes” by the time his training was complete. The timeframe allowed for nearly a year to reach the goal but it was hit in under 48 hours.

Tank completed his training in April of 2016 but had to await reaching full size growth (19 months old) before he could be measured for his vest. He was measured in January 2017 and receives delivery on March 18, 2017.

Vesting America’s Police K-9’s is a subsidiary of TREAD Armament and Weaponry, a local corporation dedicated to providing bullet/stab proof vests for the K-9 officers of Utah, as well as other areas of the country. The 501c3 organization started vesting K-9’s in 2015 by donating 15 vests. In 2016, they were able to vest 108 K-9’s across the country.

“Our vests are the one of the lightest on the market, at only 2-1/2 pounds, and made of the thinnest material available, to ensure the dogs highest level of comfort,” stated Nick Whitney, owner of TREAD Armament and Weaponry. “The vests are made of 13 layers of Kevlar, insulated with 1000 count thread. They are flame resistant, bullet proof at a level IIIa (can stop up to a .44 magnum point blank), and are stab resistant up to a 4″ blade.”

In addition to the vest donation to Tank, the Vietnam Veterans of America #961 will present a check to the organization. They have raised enough funds to purchase an additional vest for another Washington City K-9 officer, Atticus.

The public is invited to attend the celebration at Zion Harley Davidson on Saturday, March 18 at 10 am.
