The City of St. George Concert in the Park 2016 Series begins.
On Monday, April 11, 2016, the City of St. George is pleased to present Calvin Brooks as the City of St. George Concert in the Park 2016 season opener. Calvin Brooks is a guitarist, vocalist, and entertainer from Detroit–known as, the Motor City–Motown, and is now living and performing out of Las Vegas, NV.
One of five children, Calvin was born to parents William Brooks, an automotive worker, and Rose a homemaker. His parent’s recognized his musical abilities early on and nurtured his talents allowing him to study at the Grinnell school of music in Detroit.
Growing up in the 60’s surrounded by the sounds and stars of Motown, Calvin spent endless hours playing his guitar to the ever present R&B , Jazz, Blues, and Gospel music. By age 14, Brooks was being paid to play at local events and developed quite a reputation within the music community of his hometown.
Calvin’s love of music and his undeniable talent garnered him a “gig” with Martha Reeves and The Vandellas of Motown fame. For seventeen years, he toured the world and shared the stage with premiere entertainers. Calvin is an amazing performing artist in many styles. Whether playing Jazz, dance music, or smooth guitar–Calvin Brooks is an entertainer for every occasion.
The Concert in the Park 2016 Series is free to the public and takes place at 7:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month, April through September, at Vernon Worthen Park, located at 300 S. 400 E. in St. George. The ongoing concert series feature musicians and bands from many genres. Park seating is available. Bring blankets, lawn chairs, food, and family.
